The Great Basin National Heritage Partnership, as coordinating entity for the Great Basin National Heritage Area, is required by Congress to prepare a Management Plan that presents clear and comprehensive recommendations for the conservation, funding, management and development of the “Heritage Route” for a 10 to 15 year period. The plan must be developed and submitted to the Secretary of the Interior for approval by September 2011.
A vital component of the planning process is public involvement. For this reason the Partnership, at each step in planning, has continued to invite public comment.
All Great Basin national Heritage Area Partnership Board meetings are open to the public and a time period is offered for public input and comments.
An early step to involve the public was the performance of a scoping process that invited comment from a wide variety of individuals, institutions and organizations. The results of that effort may be found on this link: CLICK HERE.
A planning team was developed to provide input particularly to the interpretive planning process.
More opportunities for involvement and comment will be provided as the planning process progresses.
The Partnership has agreed on a specific process for proceeding with management plan development. CLICK HERE to link to a copy of the intended process. As of January 2010 the Partnership has completed through most of Phase 2 and is beginning parts of Phase 3. It intends to have a general draft complete by August of 2010.
