The Great Basin Heritage Area Partnership acquired
designation from Congress as a National Heritage Area October 13, 2006. The State of Utah
has recognized the Great Basin Heritage Route and the partnership has
approached the State of Nevada for similar recognition.
Congress has established 24
National Heritage Areas around the country, in which
conservation, interpretation and other activities are managed by
partnerships among federal, state, and local governments and the private sector.
The National Park Service provides technical assistance as well as
financial assistance for a limited number of years following designation. |
